Donald Anderson
Non-Exec Chairman
Graduated from Oxford in 1964 and joined the economics teams first at British Nylon Spinners (subsequently ICI Fibres) and then at Viyella International. In 1972, he left his position as Chief Economist at Viyella to become an equities analyst in the City of London, first at Vivian Gray where he became a Partner in 1976, and then from 1988 at Hoare Govett (now ABN Amro Hoare Govett). Mr Anderson as Director of Corporate Finance, ABN Amro Hoare Govett worked for 2 years and was instrumental in the successful break up of Hanson. Following retirement in mid-1999 he continued as a consultant to Hanson, amongst others and has just retired as President of the International Youth Parliament.
Mym Simcock (FinstD)
Chief Executive Officer
A founding shareholder of the Company. Aside from strategy and business implementation, she also oversees day-to-day and sales operations. In 1995, she took Freepower as a virtual company through company formation, and became CEO in 1999. Prior to joining Freepower, Ms Simcock was a founding shareholder of Bowman Power Systems, a, micro-turbine generator company, producing conventionally fuelled 25kW-100kW micro-turbine generators. Past experience covers running a consultancy practice specialising in the establishment of UK subsidiaries for foreign companies, and has held positions as a Director of an art gallery, a property company and a business enterprise centre. She spent time in the early '70s as one of the few women Foreign Exchange brokers.
Richard Biddle
Director of New Technology & Emerging Markets
A qualified solicitor, who specialised in commercial law in the 1970s. Concurrently, he served in the Royal Naval Reserves as a junior officer, spending time on gas turbine powered patrol boats. In 1983, he purchased a high-speed gas turbine experimental vessel, and subsequently built up a business supplying and installing gas turbine engines in high-speed vessels. Having spent time developing a micro gas turbine, he became a founding shareholder/director in Bowman Power Systems, in charge of mechanical design of high-speed alternators. He became Non-Executive Director in 1995 and remained as a consultant until 1999. Mr Biddle retired from Bowman in 1999 to focus on Freepower as a founder shareholder/director.
Peter Stone (FCA)
Company Secretary
Has a wide experience in general audit, taxation and company structuring. He qualified in 1969 and joined Cooper Bros in London. Mr Stone later joined Burnett Swayne, a large independent firm in Southampton, and became a Partner. After 24 years, he retired as a Senior Partner and started his own practice.
George Scott (PhD Physics)
Non-Exec Director
Is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, and has over 20 years in technology management, having created what became BP Solar R&D Division. Following graduation from Sussex he was invited by the National Research Council of Canada to take a Doctoral Research Fellowship post. He then worked at Phillips Electronics from 1970 to 1981, producing over 30 scientific publications and patents. Later, he joined BP to establish their PV technology capability. He was appointed Head of BP Group Corporate Research in 1990, handling a USD50 million p.a. budget. He then became BP Technology Director Advisor in 1992, focusing on cost effectiveness of technology delivery. In 1997, he became BP Solar's Technology Director, concentrating on technology management, development, audits and acquisition, and product development. Dr Scott is currently a Consultant to BP.
Jimmy Lowe
Non-Exec Director
Is Managing Director of Compton Group, a management consultancy specialised in designing and implementing processes to improve organisation, team and individual performance. Current clients include Renault and Marconi. Mr Lowe also lectures at University College London in advanced management techniques.
